Saturday 24th February: Haslemere circular

It was a  lovely sunny morning as 12 of us assembled at Haslemere Station. The train journey down had been busy with  groups of  walkers, runners and cyclists taking advantage of one of the few days of good weather that 2018 has given us. We set off in a south-westerly direction , looping round to Fernhurst via  attractive wood and heathland. Here we lunched well at the Red Lion, an attractive pub where we were given a  room to ourselves. One or two of us even  deemed it warm enough to sit  outside. The afternoon was rather more  demanding with a steady climb of 500 feet up to Black Down. Here we enjoyed the view before making our way back to Haslemere where a handful of us  went to the excellent Darnleys tearoom.  All in all, a nice day to be out and to become reacquainted  with our shadows. Many thanks to Harriet for leading us and to Gillian for the photos.
