Thirteen stalwarts continued our walk along the Icknield Way long distance path at the weekend, carrying our overnight essentials on our backs.  Luckily the weather forecast was clement so we took the risk of dispensing with serious waterproofs and fleeces and travelled light (well, some of us travelled lighter than others). Spring Bank Holiday in Cogne and the Aosta Valley

Thursday 25th May.  Mike writes.  Our early afternoon flight landed in Turin at 4.30 pm for a 2 hour coach transfer to Cogne. This took us on motorway up  the Aosta valley, a principal  route between Italy and Northern Europe via the Mont Blanc tunnel. Turning off just beyond Aosta, the last stretch was on a sinuous local road  in the Cogne valley,  high above the rushing Grand Eyvia river with some extremely scary unprotected drops. Saturday 10th. Berwick to Eastbourne Linear.

It was an early start for 9 dedicated Polyramblers for the long journey to  East Sussex but the hot sunshine and the beautiful views of the Downs made up for it.  We started the walk by going half way round Arlington reservoir and then through undulating farmland with beautiful views of the South Downs and the Long Man of Wilmington.
