Saturday 17 June 2017: Marlow / Maidenhead / Cookham

Nine of us met at Marlow Station on a bright, hot, sunny day. We walked past Marlow Football and Rugby clubs and eventually joined the river path and made our way to Bourne End. This part of the walk was at a gentle pace so we had plenty of time to watch the damsel and dragon files, watch the swans and geese. After the picnic lunch stop and without the company of Christine and Rosie we made our way to Cookham. We stopped very briefly at the church just before a wedding ceremony.  We stopped at The Crown for some refreshments. There was a fund raising event organised by the Local Scots Group that a few of us supported.  Three polyramblers walked back to Marlow and the rest of us were invited by Jackie, Pam’s friend, to see her house, deceptively large Mill House on the River. The garden was stunning.  I hope Jackie’s daughter and friends appreciate such a lovely location for wedding reception.

After leaving Jackie’s house we made our way back to the river path and on to Boulter’s Lock. We watched the boats pass by whilst having ice creams. After, we made our way to Maidenhead Station.  I really enjoyed this walk in a very peaceful area surrounded by woods and river. Many thanks Christine for organising this walk and for calling us all to ensure we got back to London safely.
