WENDOVER CIRCULAR – 2 AUGUST

A perfect day for walking last Sunday when ten Poly Ramblers gathered (in a socially distanced way) at Wendover station.  Hilary split us into two groups and we set off with Rochelle’s group following a short distance behind.  A gentle climb up Coombe Hill rewarded us with great views over the Vale of Aylesbury. We paused at the Boer War monument at the top and we noted that the dates referred to the second Boer War which featured in the previous evening’s Zoom quiz.  We continued south downhill and were soon in woodland.  We crossed the Ridgeway and Icknield Way at several points and eventually emerged into Little Hampden for our picnic lunch on the green.  The village once boasted a pub but sadly it has been closed for ten years.  We continued to the village of Dunsmore (no pub here either) and then through lanes and fields to the outskirts of Wendover where we stopped at the King and Queen for a much needed drink.  A lovely walk, thank you Hilary and Rochelle
