WEDNESDAY 9th NOVEMBER 7.30pm: GUILDHALL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA AT THE BARBICAN:

Once again the GSO gave us an inspirational demonstration of musicality, vitality and expertise, from the haunting violin solo of Scheherezade to the stirring ensemble performance of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Even though they are well known works, the Orchestra and especially the solo violinist, Amarins Wierdsma, under the baton of the Venezuelan conductor Diego Matheuz, put their hearts and souls into their playing, imbued with youthful energy and enthusiasm, leaving the audience stimulated and refreshed, to face the outside world and all it has to throw at us!On a practical level we do hope that all the young musicians, the forty violinists, ten double bass players, ten cellists and all the brass, wind and timpani sections (including the underemployed tamborine player!) will be able to find gainful employment after graduation and continue to impress audiences with their skill and vigour. Thank you to Mary for organising the tickets.
