Friday 6 to Monday 9 October 2017: Weekend in Barmouth (Wales)

Friday: After a long but scenic train journey, 18 Polyramblers arrived in Barmouth on a sunny afternoon for our autumn weekend. After settling in our different B&Bs, we did an orientation walk that was more challenging than usual, especially for the Strollers. We walked up to St John’s church then up a steep hill to Dinas Oleu, the first land donated to the National Trust and up again to the Frenchman’ grave. We came down through the little alleyways of Continue reading Friday 6 to Monday 9 October 2017: Weekend in Barmouth (Wales)

Spring Bank Holiday in Cogne and the Aosta Valley

Those brave enough to have their eyes open caught a glimpse of the famous Roman bridge at Pondel, way below. Continue reading Spring Bank Holiday in Cogne and the Aosta Valley

After tea and cake, we did a short walk and ended up at the Cove House Inn in Chiswell where Continue reading Friday 24 to Sunday 26 March 2017: Portland YHA Weekend

13 to 16 January 2017: Snow-walking in Oberammergau (Bavaria)

Although we travelled on Friday 13 to Oberammergau, it was a very smooth journey by plane and train via Munich. After settling in our hotels we did an exploratory walk as night was falling and drank our first gluhwein/beer. Meal in the hotel and off to bed.
After a nice breakfast – and discovering that the hotel has 2 cats -we set off to walk the Altherrenweg, a trail with panoramic views which follows the Ammer valley. We saw a black squirrel and a hare. We Continue reading 13 to 16 January 2017: Snow-walking in Oberammergau (Bavaria)
