Saturday 23rd August: 

Long walk: Wye to Canterbury (14.2 miles) leader Harriet
Lovely long walk from Wye back to Canterbury mostly following the North Downs Way. There are some very long hills, otherwise quite gentle countryside. We’ll stop for a picnic and swift pint in Chilham (about half way). Bring lots of water and a sandwich.  Meet at Canterbury West station.  Buy single to Wye.  Charing Cross train leaves 10.07, arrives Wye. 10.21.

Middle walk:  Chilham to Canterbury (8 miles) leader Gillian (07719 452023)This is a shorter version of the long walk, following the North Downs Way.  It is quite hilly in places but nothing very steep. We may start with coffee in Chilham if available. There are no facilities en route until we arrive back in Canterbury.  Bring picnic and plenty of water.  Meet at Canterbury West station.  Buy single to Chilham. Charing Cross train leaves 10.07, arrives Chilham 10.15

Short walk: Sandwich and Sandwich Bay circular (4.5 miles) leader Danny (07907 346957). Paths over saltmarsh fields, golf courses and dunes.  We will take bus 43 at 11.16 from Canterbury Bus Station.  Return by same bus.  Pub lunch in Sandwich or bring a picnic

Sunday 24 August:

Long and middle walk: Thanet Parkway to Margate via Ramsgate and Broadstairs (up to 12.5 miles) leader Susan (07763 131145)  Flat coastal walking with 2 flights of steps.  Opportunity to see the replica Viking ship at Pegwell Bay. Pit stop at Ramsgate.  Lunch at Broadstairs.  Bring picnic as eateries will be busy. Places to get tea/coffee.  Opportunity for lunchtime swim at Stone Bay. Pit stop at Botany Bay (with pub!).  This walk can be cut short by picking up the Thanet Open Top bus which runs hourly along the coast.  https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/south-east/thanet-open-top. Or you can return by train from Ramsgate or Broadstairs.   Meet at Canterbury West station.  Buy OPDR to Margate.  Ramsgate train departs 10.19 arrives Thanet Parkway 10.38.  Return from Margate (hourly direct trains at .49. Also trains changing at Ramsgate).

 Short walk:  Broadstairs to Ramsgate (4 miles)  leader Danny (07907 346957)  Seafront promenades and clifftop paths.  Pub, café or picnic lunch.  Meet at Canterbury West station.  Buy OPDR to Broadstairs.  Train departs 10.35 , arrives Broadstairs 11.03.  Return from Ramsgate

 Monday 25 August:  

Long walk: Shepherds Well to Canterbury (linear) 11 miles. leader Harriet   Mostly following the North Downs Way. Not particularly challenging walking but we will need to get to Canterbury in time to get back to our accommodation and turn around for the evening meal. The lunch stop will be early and if we’re lucky, we’ll have time to enjoy the delights of Bridge where there is a tea shop and several pubs.  Bring water and a sandwich.  Meet at Canterbury East station.  Buy single to Shepherds Well.  Dover Priory train departs 09.40, arrives Shepherds Well 09.59

Middle walk:  Shepherds Well to Bridge or Bekesbourne  Approx 8-9 miles leader (Gillian 07719 452023) 

This is a shorter version of the long walk. No stiles.  No steep climbs.  Some hard surfaces.  No facilities until Bridge.  Early picnic lunch.  Pubs and café at Bridge for late lunch/tea.  Meet at Canterbury East.  Buy OPDR to Shepherds Well.  Dover Priory train departs 09.40, arrives Shepherdswell 09.59.  You can take bus 17 back to Canterbury from Bridge at 14.30  or continue to Bekesbourne station (hourly service to Canterbury .42)

The long walk and middle walkers will start out together but may separate depending on the pace of each group

Short walk: Chilham circular 5.5 miles. leader Danny (07907 346957)  Parkland, field paths and woodland tracks.  Meet at Canterbury West. Buy OPDR to Chilham.  Charing Cross train departs 11.07, arrives Chilham 11.15.  Picnic lunch or pubs and cafes in Chilham
