Seventeen members + one non-member gathered at Eltham station to undertake this 6 mile ramble across SE London’s open spaces. On walking out of the station approach we crossed under the railway and over the road to Well Hall Pleasaunce a local park, where I showed the party the spot where an 18th century house once stood where lived the author Edith Nesbit. Here she wrote “The Railway Children”. We then continued along Dunvegan Road until we reached Eltham Park with views across to Crystal Palace. Then we crossed Shepherdleas Wood then onto Oxleas Wood. This led out to Oxleas Meadows, a large sloping open space, where we gradually climbed to the top end, and came across a cafe with more views over south east London. It was lunchtime.
Friday 11 to Monday 14 January 2019: Snow-walking in Tyrol
After a delayed flight, 2 trains and 2 buses, 8 Polyramblers finally arrived in Biberwier for a snow-walking weekend. And snow, there was – loads. After settling in gasthaus Panorama, we ate a lovely dinner in a nearby restaurant, Hotel Restaurant Alpina, which became our favourite watering hole. Some of us enjoyed their first apfelstrudel and others a few schnapps.

Saturday 2nd Limehouse to Greenwich (Linear)
North Thames Path followed by circular walk exploring Greenwich and Greenwich Park. Leader will meet walkers at 10am at Limehouse station (zone 2) on DLR from Bank. Walk concludes at Greenwich stn.(zone 2/3). Stunning views of London from the Observatory and Pointer Hill. Suggested lunch at the Trafalgar Tavern, Greenwich. Distance 8 miles, EX 162. Leader Hilary
5th January London Water & Steam Museum. Walk to Hammersmith
Ten Polyramblers spent a very informative morning looking at the history of our water supplies and marvelling at the huge pump engines which were used to distribute water throughout London.Two of our ramblers also went to the musical museum next door for a guided tour!By the time we started the afternoon walk our numbers had expanded to 21 participants. Postal Museum and Mail Rail visit
On the Saturday after Christmas twenty Poly Ramblers were booked in for a ride on Mail Rail, the 6.5 mile underground railway which carried post between Paddington and Liverpool Street from 1927 to 2003.
Thirteen of the group turned out early for a stroll around historic Clerkenwell. This took us past a house that once belonged to Janet Street Porter and then to the medieval Gateway to the Priory of the Knights of St John.
