Saturday 24 March 2018: Berkhamsted (Circular)

Our first Spring walk was foggy and felt quite autumnal but at least it stayed dry.  The walk was in the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and in Hertfordshire,  the county of opportunity.  After leaving the station, 9 Polyramblers were soon in the countryside, walking in a valley before crossing Frithsden Beeches and reaching the Golden Valley in the Ashridge Estate, well named Continue reading Saturday 24 March 2018: Berkhamsted (Circular)

We passed part of the village, then Hampstead Ponds, Parliament Hill, Highgate Ponds before we stopped for lunch at Kenwood House, and visited Continue reading 24th February. Hampstead Heath

Here we lunched well at the Red Lion, an attractive Continue reading Saturday 24th February: Haslemere circular

Heading north from the station, we crossed over the disused railway line that leads down to Brompton Barracks and Chatham Dockyard. Shortly after our first glimpse of the Medway, we passed  the lovely parish church of St Mary Magdalene, set in an Continue reading Saturday 17th February, Gillingham (Kent) to Rainham.
