The Peddar’s Way begins at Knettishall Heath in Suffolk and runs for 46 miles north to finish at Holme-next-the-sea on the north Norfolk coast. The path is characterised by being very straight and of course pretty flat. In this trip I aimed to get us half way to the coast. Thetford is the nearest town to the start point but is severely lacking in affordable accommodation. For this reason most of the group stayed at the Best Western in Bury st Edmunds, while Geoffrey and Harriet stayed in the only B&B in Thetford. The Bury st Edmunds group enjoyed an excellent meal at Francela’s in the town centre while the Thetford group ate with Harriet’s god daughter who lives locally. SPRING BANK HOLIDAY 2019, WALKING IN THE DOLOMITES
The first day of the Dolomite weekend (25th May 2019) by Pam
We started the day with a substantial breakfast in the Hotel Vajolet. The ever-attentive Signora dressed in local traditional dress greeted us and indicated the spread. I chose muesli, a slice of peach, yoghurt, a boiled egg, a slice of rustic bread, ham and cheese, to get me started for the first walk. I had to resist the temptation to eat croissants and cake as well or I wouldn’t have been able to make it up the mountain!

On the Friday, travelling by car, train and bus, 27 Polyramblers made their way to Beer in Devon. 21 to stay in the youth hostel which the club had hired for the weekend and 6 in the Dolphin Hotel. Standing in its own grounds, it retains many original features, including stripped timber floors and leaded windows.

Friday 11 to Monday 14 January 2019: Snow-walking in Tyrol
After a delayed flight, 2 trains and 2 buses, 8 Polyramblers finally arrived in Biberwier for a snow-walking weekend. And snow, there was – loads. After settling in gasthaus Panorama, we ate a lovely dinner in a nearby restaurant, Hotel Restaurant Alpina, which became our favourite watering hole. Some of us enjoyed their first apfelstrudel and others a few schnapps.

Autumn Weekend in Ashbourne (Derbyshire)
Following on from the success of our previous weekend in Darwin Forest we booked lodges at Sandybrook Park in Ashbourne. On the Friday afternoon we settled into our lodges and prioritised party plans for the weekend to celebrate birthdays.
Our orientation walk was via the Tissington trail to Ashbourne. We arrived at St Oswald’s church dating back to 1240 and home to many artefacts about local history. We were lucky enough to be shown around by the vicar who was happy to expand on the churches’ historical significance.
