Leith Hill circular in the mist and mud

Nine Polyramblers reached the very nice Plough Inn for lunch, although three arrived before the rest after an email malfunction!  I decided after the walkover to start an hour later, but Harriet, Irene and Valeria never received the email notifying members about the change. The nine of us left the nice and warm pub to face the mud, rain and gathering mist, which made for a walk in the woods more akin to a Hammer horror film than walking up to Leith Hill. SNOW-WALKING WEEKEND IN BAVARIA

After flying to Munich and a smooth train journey to Fischen, 12 Polyramblers arrived in gastehaus Luitz-Kennerknecht where we received a very warm welcome. Instead of doing a walk around Fischen, we drank beer in the lounge with our hosts (Katja, Alex and their parents) and had a lovely glass of apricot schnapps. We had a nice dinner in Beim Kreuzwirt (booked by our hosts) accompanied by a musician and his accordion. Back at the guesthouse, a few of us had a nightcap while the rest went to bed after a long day of travel.

HENLEY CIRCULAR WALK: SUNDAY 7 JANUARY

Report by Susan. Photos by Pam

Two ramblers and I set off on the 9.15 train from Paddington and were joined by 3 more polys and Teddy the dog at Ealing Broadway. Geoffrey, who had driven, joined us at Henley-on-Thames station. After walking a few minutes along the river, we branched off through the town and then onto the Oxfordshire Way footpath. We were lucky as although the wind was sometimes a little bracing, it was sunny all day. After a gentle climb we made our way along the Continue reading HENLEY CIRCULAR WALK: SUNDAY 7 JANUARY

BEACONSFIELD CIRCULAR – SATURDAY 25 NOVEMBER

A perfect late autumn  morning in the Chilterns with blue sky and sunshine and frost on the ground attracted 11 Poly Ramblers on Saturday. The walk was surprisingly level and took us through woods and field edge paths east from Beaconsfield to the village of Seer Green and then north to the 250 acre Hodgemoor Woods. It is easy to get lost in woods and Stuart and I almost managed it, having taken the wrong fork early on. But we managed to retrieve the situation with help from the GPS and were soon back on track heading down to the Harte and Magpies on the busy A355. The pub was very friendly and the food came promptly. The pub labrador came to sit under our table and Rob befriended her with chips. Continue reading BEACONSFIELD CIRCULAR – SATURDAY 25 NOVEMBER

SWANLEY CIRCULAR WALK – 4 NOVEMBER

Eight Poly Ramblers turned out on a wet and murky Saturday morning for a walk on the borders of Kent and South East London. By the time we alighted the train at Swanley the rain had subsided to a drizzle and we headed off led by Peter along quiet lanes and across muddy fields. After 3 miles we arrived at the Five Bells in Chelsfield where the staff were very friendly and five of us enjoyed a good meal. After lunch Sandy and Nigel decided to call it a day and we left Continue reading SWANLEY CIRCULAR WALK – 4 NOVEMBER
